The Facts

History & Vision

In 1908, a group of civic minded women led by Jesse Spafford, created a safe place to keep boys off the street, curb their smoking habits and help them stay out of trouble…the humble beginnings of the Rockford Boys Club.  Known today as The Boys & Girls Club of Rockford, the same needs exist for many of our area youth. We presently operate 7 locations with an average daily attendance of 850,
each in its own unique geographical location serving more than 9,000 youth, either through its membership or outreach efforts, annually.

What Makes Us Unique

  • Dedicated to Youth. The Clubs give kids places of their own — actual neighborhood-based buildings -- designed solely for youth programs and activities.
  • Accessability.  Clubs are open when kids have free time and need positive, productive outlets.
  • Professional Staff. Every Club has full-time, trained youth development professionals, providing positive role models and mentors. Volunteers provide key supplementary support.
  • Affordable to All Youth. Clubs reach out to kids who cannot afford, or may lack access to, other community programs. Dues are $15 per year for Club membership with scholarships available for those who qualify.

Boys & Girls Clubs provide hope, stability and opportunity for youth and make a difference in their lives:

  • A safe place they can call their own.
  • A caring place where our professionals serve as role models and positively influence their lives.
  • A positive place where they have the freedom to be kids and have fun while learning new skills, cultivating talents, enhancing their character and education, and learning how to live healthy and honorable lives.
